My Rubbermaid Deck Box Review-the 5F21,5E39 and 5F22 Deck Boxes

This review will give you a comprehensive look at the three most popular Rubbermaid deck boxes on the market

Rubbermaid 5F21 deck box

The Rubbermaid 5F21 deck box is the  cheaper and smaller of these deck boxes. It will set you back less than $100 and features

  • A seat
  • Hinged lid
  • Hasps for security.

It measures 25 inches high, 26.2 inches wide and 42.5 inches deep and is ideal for storing stuff like barbeque accessories, fuels, garden tools, patio furniture covers and any other stuff you have lying around outdoors.

Like most Rubbermaid products it is crack resistant and maintenance free as a result of the polyethylene material construction.

As you can see from the photograph it has olive colored panels and a sandstone colored lid with the seat molded into the lid. Thankfully it is a snap to assemble with all panels snapping together (no need for diy or screws etc.)

Rubbermaid 5E39

The Rubbermaid 5E39 is the extra large version of the Rubbermaid deck box and provides 16.2 cubic feet of space and features a grid floor which is very useful for keeping tools in place.

It measures 56.5 inches wide by 21 inches deep by 22.5 inches high and there are optional accessories that you can get to divide up the interior of the storage unit. It also has a molded seat and is easy to assemble and strong.

The price of the extra large deck box on, which is the best place to buy from our research, is less than $180 as we write this which is the cheapest price we found.

Rubbermaid 5F22

The Rubbermaid 5F22  is the in between version of these deck boxes which measures 54.5 inches wide by 26.5 inches deep by 25 inches high and sells for around $125. It is pretty good value at this price but the reviews of this product are less than stellar with many people stating that it is not strong enough to sit on and was not waterproof.

Many people use deck boxes for storing patio cushions so if the waterproof feature is important to you just make sure that you assemble it properly as many of the negative reviews seem to come from people who struggled with assembly.

What all of these units have in common is the name Rubbermaid. This is a name that is well-known for being a high quality product. These storage units are all made of a very strong and durable resin, which will last for years. They will not fade or peel even after decades of use. Furthermore, you will never have to paint them.

People have found countless ways to employ these storage boxes. People who have children often utilize them as outdoor toy boxes. They make the perfect place to keep all of their balls, bats, and various other sports equipment. People who have pools or hot tubs have discovered that because these containers are water proof, they are the ideal place to store all of their chemicals.

If you are a gardener, you can make great use of these boxes. They can easily accommodate all of your small gardening tools. Everything from seeds, fertilizer and extra pots can fit inside.

Countless people like to use these units to store recyclables outside. They are an ideal place to keep all those plastic bottles or papers. Alternatively, you can keep your garbage bags in these boxes. Many people live in regions where animals getting into unprotected bags are a real issue. These boxes are strong and heavy enough to keep many unwanted animals from tearing apart the garbage.

Assembling these boxes is incredibly simple. There are no tools required and there are only six pieces. The pieces can be snapped together in only a few minutes.

When you read the reviews you will note a number of other things that appeal to owners. They can be affixed with a lock, if you are worried about theft. Many are also pleased that these plastic boxes can be cleaned in a matter of minutes. All you require is a hose and a mild soap. Furthermore, they can be left outdoors year round. They are not affected by either the cold or the heat.
